Stephen lived with his parents prior to moving to a Swanton home in 2005.
Stephen found school extremely difficult to cope with and had many bad experiences throughout his school years. Due to his Autism and environmental factors, his behaviours and aggression increased to a level the school were unable to sustain, therefore leading to exclusion.
At home, Stephen spent a lot of time in his room and isolated himself. He rarely accessed activities in the community; his parents found his behaviours very stressful and difficult to manage.
Since moving into the Swanton home, Stephen leads a more routine and structured lifestyle with a consistent approach from dedicated and trained staff. The support he has received has boosted his confidence and self esteem; he feels comfortable with staff and his environment. He is now able to self manage most behaviours.
With support from staff, Stephen now successfully accesses the community on a regular basis enjoying going swimming, bowling and out for pub lunches, day’s out and most recently a caravan holiday.
Stephen is now an extremely happy young man who enjoys spending time with others and has a much more positive relationship with his family and friends. Working with the staff and his family, Stephen is making plans for his future and is excited at the prospect. |
