Driving Up Quality Code
Swanton Care & Community have signed up to The Driving Up Quality Code which outlines good fundamental practices and behaviour that organisations that support people with learning disabilities need to be committed to. Signing up to the Code is a public commitment from organisations that they believe in these good practices and are achieving or actively working towards them. Signing up to the Code is also a commitment from organisations to be transparent about how they operate.
NAPPI Centre of Excellence
Centre of excellence seeks to recognise those organisations who follow the NAPPI Model of Positive Behaviour Support who either meet or exceed the requirements stipulated within the BILD (British Institute of Learning Disabilities) Codes of Practice.
Swanton and NAPPI have a long standing relationship which dates back 15 years and we are thrilled that the work within the Swanton services have been recognised by NAPPI uk, something that would be difficult to achieve without their continued support.
To date Swanton have 10 on site NAPPI trainers and are about to develop a team of positive behaviour coaches with NAPPI’s support to further embed the ethos of both Swanton and NAPPI throughout our services which will further ensure that the individuals who we support to live fulfilling and rewarding lives.

Quality Experts Go to Work
Swanton’s first group of Quality Experts have started work in Hull and are providing monthly audits of our own services as well as being commissioned by Barchester Healthcare to provide audit and critical friend support to their nursing services for younger adults.
The group of four service users and a family/carer were recruited in October and have been trained and inducted into their role by Richard Hardman Swanton’s Director of Quality and Dave Helm from advocacy charity Choice Support. The induction has been challenging and exciting but a day sharing experiences from the Choice Support ‘Experts by Experience’ team gave our new recruits the confidence to undertake their first audits and produce their first reports.
The Quality Experts are paid posts and form an important part of Richard’s Quality team. Reflecting on the process so far he said “I am immensely proud of the work the team have done and the commitment and values they bring to their roles. It’s a real honour to have such a special group and I look forward to welcoming more Quality Experts to the team as we roll out the programme across the company".
