The Cedars is a large detached Victorian building in a tree lined street near Sunderland City centre. The home provides care and accommodation for up to six young adults with autism spectrum disorder. Each person has a double bedroom and there are two spacious shared lounges and a separate dinning area. To the rear of the house there is an enclosed garden area where there is space to relax in the quiet surroundings of this residential area.
The people who live at Cedars End have very complex needs and are effectively supported to express their needs, wants and view at every opportunity. Extensive person centred My Plans detail how each individual wants to be supported, their own individual communication styles and what each person likes to do. Families and friends are welcome to visit the home or contact via telephone and are consulted on a regular basis about aspects of their relatives care.
The manager Jan Collins has over eighteen years experience in providing residential care and educational services for people who have autism. She has a well established and highly trained staff team who are able to provide consistent support to ensure the people who live in the home enjoy a happy and fulfilling life. Each individual is provided with the support he or she needs including 2:1 support for community outings.
