Support Worker Aaron Millar has been keeping listeners in the North East entertained during the lockdown as a DJ on PRIDE Radio.
Aaron, who is a much-loved member of the Swanton Community & Care Sunderland team, got the opportunity to join the LGBT+ station as a presenter in 2019.
His Monday night show has been a welcome distraction for listeners during the lockdown, as Aaron plays great records and hosts excellent discussions about equality, diversity and inclusivity.
For SCC Sunderland Manager Faye Hunter, Aaron’s work at the service and on PRIDE Radio is a shining example of compassion and commitment.
Faye said: “Everyone here is so proud of Aaron and the incredible work he does every day.
“As a Support Worker, he’s kind, caring and warm, so it’s no surprise that he’s perfectly suited to hosting a radio show. The people we support love Aaron – we have so many compliments about his dedication and care.
“We’re incredibly proud of him for following his passion and becoming a radio DJ, and also for being a vocal advocate for LGTB+ people.”
Faye said that Aaron has suffered hardships over the years because of being transgender. But he’s taken those difficult experiences and turned them into positive motivation for his advocacy.
Faye said: “I feel incredibly lucky to have somebody who works so hard to include all communities as part of my team.
“Aaron truly understands the issues around equality and diversity, and he works hard to help other people find their voice.
“I’m glad the listeners of PRIDE Radio are getting the chance to hear him too.”
Aaron’s radio show is on Monday nights at 7pm on Pride Radio (89.2FM).
