The green-fingered team at Cartref Croeso have outdone themselves this season by growing a bumper crop of fruit and vegetables.

Team Leader Tania Sarginson invited the people supported at the service in South Wales to pick the produce they wanted to grow this spring.

After making their selections from a list of fruit and veg, the people supported at Cartref Croeso have spent the past few months cultivating their crops.

So, there was delight all around when the first produce was picked and put on the menu for everyone to enjoy.

Tania said: “We all absolutely love growing food and it’s so satisfying to pick our homegrown fruit and veggies.

“We got a huge bowl of apples and one of the people we support made apple crumble, and another person made apple sauce.

“There’s been tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber and strawberries too. Everyone has enjoyed the food all the more, knowing that we grew it ourselves.”

In the large veg patch in Cartref Croeso’s gardens, the team are growing potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, rhubarb and carrots.

For people supported at the service who find it hard to bend down, there are also raised garden beds so they can get involved in the growing too.

There’s also a special pumpkin patch section which Tania hopes will bear fruit in time for Halloween.

Tania added: “Last year I had a huge pumpkin, so I dried the seeds out and we’ve planted them in the pumpkin patch for this year.

“Fingers crossed we end up with a good selection of pumpkins for our Halloween celebrations!
