Colleagues from Swanton, Values in Care, Courtyard Care, Emerald Care & GRS Care raised an incredible £4,000 for charity Happy Days in November by taking part in a non-stop, 24-hour exercise-a-thon.
The people supported at Swanton, and staff, got into the spirit of the big-hearted challenge by getting their tracksuits on and their exercise equipment out.
From 10am on Thursday 26th until 10am on Friday 27th November, Team Swanton passed the baton as everyone pitched in to cover all 48 of the 30-minute slots. The whole event was streamed live for the company, so everyone could see the latest team take on their part of the challenge.
There were some fantastic efforts across the services, and there was even professional support on hand. In Rotherham, Sarah-Jayne from Firehouse Fitness (who used to work as a carer for Swanton) led some training sessions and did a personalised HIT workout with Philip from Station House.
Meanwhile, Marcus from Values In Care led chair-robics for people who are less mobile. Cedars had a visit from Mrs Motivator – who led a very unique fitness class for those in attendance.
Elsewhere in Wales, the Values In Care support staff tackled a local climbing wall, Regional Director Simon Rooke hit the golf course, and stepped in when one service hit a technical glitch to complete an over-50s workout in his jeans!
Over in the North East, Seaham View Service Manager Dhiraj won a late-night battle of the press-ups by beating colleague Stuart. Regional Director Tom Pick hit the exercise bike in the early hours of the morning, as did Park Lodge’s Amanda.
Other early risers included yoga fans Skala, Anne-Laure and Elizabeth who did a 4.30am yoga session. Meanwhile, Emerald Care fundraisers had a morning game of footie.
These are just a few of the fun-filled sessions that made up the challenge, many more services did their bit to reach the grand total.
Swanton CEO Garry Cross said that he was incredibly proud of everyone’s hard work.
Garry said: “This was a real team effort and a wonderful example of how much we can achieve when we work together. I’m so proud of every participant.
“Every time I logged on to cheer people on, I was astounded by the dedication and enthusiasm shown by our staff and the people we support. A Great event made even better with the Teams media platform.
“The best part of it is knowing that it all paid off and that Happy Days will be getting £4,000. I want to thank every single person who got involved and made this event such a huge success.”
Swanton donated £25 for every 30 minutes completed, plus there were donations from Firehouse Fitness, the families of people supported at Swanton services and many other well-wishers.
The money will go to help Happy Days to continue to provide incredible support to families across the UK.
