Deanside’s Sarah Jane and Ruth have been presented with ‘Leaps and Bounds’ Awards for their awesome efforts in a charity walking challenge.

The ladies committed to walking a mile every day in May to raise funds for Swanton’s charity of the year Happy Days.

As the ladies live with mobility or health issues, it was no easy feat for them to complete the daily strolls.

However, they hit their May target and raised an incredible £450 for the children’s charity.

Sunderland Supported Living Service Manager Faye Hunter said it was a proud moment to present Sarah Jane and Ruth with their ‘Leaps and Bounds’ awards.

Faye said: “I was absolutely buzzing for them both – they have done so well.

“To think that back at the beginning of May, neither Sarah Jane nor Ruth was exercising regularly, and they still managed to smash it.

“The money they raised will be put to excellent use by Happy Days, and their Leaps and Bounds awards were thoroughly deserved.”

Better still, when May ended, Sarah Jane and Ruth kept on walking.

They found that they both enjoyed feeling healthier and losing weight through regular exercise.

Sarah Jane has even got a gym membership now and intends to keep building up her fitness.

Faye added: “It’s been inspiring to see Sarah Jane and Ruth come so far with their health and fitness.

“They are about to celebrate one year of living at Deanside, and everyone is so proud of how well they are doing.”
