A sunny week by the sea was just the tonic for Sam this summer as he enjoyed his first post-lockdown break.

Outgoing Sam, who is supported by Swanton Community Care Sunderland, enjoyed six days of holiday fun in Saltburn-by-the-sea.

Sam’s mum chose the destination because Sam loves being by the seaside, going for long walks and checking out local attractions.

Support Worker Rob Robson, who accompanied Sam on the holiday with a colleague, said it was a terrific spot.

Rob said: “Sam had never been to Saltburn before, but it was the perfect place for him to do all the things he enjoys.

“We went to Eden Camp, which is a modern history museum about wartime and also to an Alice In Wonderland-themed exhibition, where everything was carved out of wood.

“Sam enjoyed boat trips on the harbour and going for some long walks on the coast. He was beaming from ear-to-ear, so we knew he was having a great time.”

Sam, who lives in Gateshead, is also a big fan of traditional seaside pursuits, including the arcades and going for pub lunches.

He took full advantage of Whitby’s amusements and made sure to fit in a few special meals.

Rob added: “Sam absolutely loves playing on the 2p machines in the arcades, so he got to do plenty of that.

“We had some tasty pub lunches, including a fantastic meal of fresh fish in a pub on the harbour.

“The holiday was everything Sam needed after going through multiple lockdowns, and it was brilliant to see him having such a good time.”
