A new litter picking group from Values In Care have vowed to clean up the streets of South Wales after a successful first outing.

People supported at Values In Care and staff from The Hub went out to the village of Treharris armed with litter grabbers and bin bags.

They began in the Rugby Club car park, where they were met by the caretaker, who thanked them for their efforts.

From there, the litter pickers walked around Treharris and collected six bags of litter.

According to Vocational Services Facilitator Marcus Davies, it was terrific fun, and they received thanks from local dog walkers and villagers.

Marcus said: “We had a great time litter picking in Treharris

“The people we support really enjoyed doing something so positive for the local community.

As a company, we have been working on ways to contribute to society and this is just the beginning of our efforts.

“We plan to work with the people we support and help them to be a part of their community by engaging in meaningful activities.”

Treharris isn’t far from The Hub, and three of the Values In Care services are nearby.

Having started in the village, Marcus says they are now considering where to go next.

Marcus added: “We intend to build this up and get local people to join us on our litter picking walks.

“We’ve been in touch with Keep Wales Tidy, and they’ve said they’ll send us some equipment to help out.

“They’re also going to arrange to take away the bags of litter we’ve collected.

“It’ll be fantastic to see where this initiative takes us.”
