Turning 39 will be memorable for Lyn Richardson this year as she competes in her first-ever boxing match.
Lyn, who works at Seaham View, wanted to push herself to undertake a fitness challenge in 2021 to raise funds for Swanton charity Happy Days.
She’s already started training by doing cycling, jogging and swimming, but the work begins in earnest in October.
Lyn will complete an intensive eight-week boxing bootcamp before stepping into the ring on 12th December.
The occasion will be even more special because the match is also on Lyn’s birthday.
Lyn said: “I’m really excited to get started – it’s going to be an epic challenge for me.
“I love keeping fit, but the boxing training and the fight will push me to my limits.
“What’s most important is raising as much money as we can for Happy Days, who do incredible work.
“Fingers crossed that I hold my own against my opponent.”
The excitement is already building at Seaham View as Lyn’s colleagues and the people they support get behind her.
Lyn said: “I’ve had so much encouragement already.
“The reaction has been fantastic, and some of the team have already secured their seats ringside.
“Sarah and Verity, two of the ladies we support, are really excited about it.
“I’ve got them into fitness and working out, and now they are going to be pushing me to work harder!”
Swanton will be donating £100 to Lyn’s efforts on the day of the event – and watch this space for more details of the big fight itself!
