Turning 50 will be unforgettable for Swanton’s Rachael Preece as she enters the World Northern Soul Dance Competition in aid of charity.
On 13th November 2021, Quality Assurance Lead Rachael will hit the dancefloor at the Blackpool Tower ballroom to compete for the title.
She’s hoping to raise funds for Swanton’s ‘Charity of the Year’ Happy Days through sponsorship and collections on the day.
Her training has already begun at home, where Rachael has been spending evenings grooving to Northern Soul classics in her attic.
Rachael said: “I’m a massive Northern Soul fan, and I wanted to do something special to celebrate turning 50.
“There’s fierce competition during the World Northern Soul Dance Competition, but I’m determined to get into the final three.
“It’ll be amazing to raise money for Happy Days, as well as to bring awareness on the incredible work they do.”
Rachael grew up with Northern Soul after her older sister introduced her to the music.
She added: “My sister was my icon growing up, and I used to watch her and her friends dance to Northern Soul at family events. It was so exciting.
“When I was in my late teens, I started to go along to events too, and I have continued to do so ever since.
“What’s great is that the Northern Soul community is so charity-focused. Many of the events are fundraisers, so I’m hoping to follow in their footsteps.”
Rachael’s Swanton colleagues, family and friends are all getting behind her, with many people offering to come to the Northern Soul Weekender to cheer her on.
