Autumn has delivered the news that the girls supported at Allt Ioan have been waiting for – their favourite social club is back.

Before the pandemic, they were regulars at ‘The Mix Youth Group’, a social club run at Llandybie Memorial Hall.

Sadly, the club had to close its doors when COVID hit, but it reopened to everybody’s delight in late September.

Allot Ioan Senior Team Leader Sara Harris said that the ladies they support are thrilled to get together again with their friends at ‘The Mix’.

Sara said: “It has been brilliant for the girls to get back to ‘The Mix’ – they are so happy it’s reopened.

“Every Wednesday, they look forward to socialising with their peers, making new friends and having fun together.

“The friendships they form at ‘The Mix’ are so important, as they get to meet people in other supported living and learning disability services.”

There’s plenty to do at each session, including dancing, colouring, board games, pool and many other activities.

There are often themed events for Halloween and Christmas, and if one of the group’s birthdays falls on a ‘Mix’ Wednesday, they throw celebrations.

Sara added: “One of the ladies we support had her birthday on the first Mix session back, and they did a cake and everybody sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her.

“It’s terrific to see them interacting with their friends, making social plans for outside the group and just having a good time. It’s awesome to have ‘The Mix’ back in our lives.”
