Hardworking Stephen has taken his first steps towards his goal of independent living by signing up for a new college course.
Stephen, who is supported at Swanton’s Lynwood Road service, has started attending weekly Daily Living Skills classes at West Road College.
The course empowers students to develop their independence by teaching vital life skills, which Stephen hopes will help him fulfil his dream of moving into his own bungalow.
According to Deputy Manager Steph Fallowfield, Stephen is having a terrific time learning and making new friends after just a few weeks at college.
Steph said: “It’s been fantastic to see Stephen settle into college life so quickly – he loves it.
“After his first day in class, the teachers recommended that he signed up for the weekly arts and crafts course as well.
“Stephen really enjoys his lessons, and he’s made loads of new friends. He’s even signed up to be the DJ for the college Christmas party!”
After such a strong start, everyone at Lynwood is excited to see how Stephen’s college journey progresses.
He’s already on a waiting list for another class, this time in performing arts, and is keeping his eye out for other opportunities.
Steph added: “College has given Stephen a sense of purpose, and it’s had an incredible impact on him.
“We’re all so proud of Stephen, and we are rooting for him to achieve all his goals.”
