Complex medical needs
Learning disabilities
I have over 22 years’ experience working with children, 16 of these were supporting children with a diagnosis of autism and behaviours that challenge. In December 2016, I joined Courtyard Care as a Deputy Manager to support children with complex medical needs. It was in this role that I supported with the opening of Millies, one of the homes in Courtyard Care in Liverpool. The home opened in February 2017 and after 12 months I became the homes Registered Manager.
Management of this home is a key strength; I demonstrate strong leadership to a large team and believe in empowering them to be creative in providing opportunities for the children we support to embrace life.
I have been working in residential care and special needs school/services since 1999. My Previous roles include consultancy work, supporting failing homes and schools to improve. I then became a Registered Manager for 5 years, during this time, the team and myself had an Ofsted Judgment of ‘outstanding’ for 5 years.
My more recent roles progressed to Operational Manager supporting 13 homes and most recently In November 2015 I joined Courtyard Care as Regional Director.
I am a qualified Social Worker who is passionate and driven to provide the best possible outcomes for children and young people we support. Myself and my team have a keen interest in ensuring our services are ‘fit for purpose’ and meet all regulatory frameworks/requirements. We are very child-centred and believe every child should be given the opportunity to grow and succeed. Barriers can be overcome by working together to achieve the best outcomes.
We celebrate all achievements as every step is a milestone for the children / young people we support.
I am also the Responsible Individual (RI) for all of our children’s homes in the North.
Millie’s Courtyard – Courtyard Care, provides a consistent, safe, and nurturing environment where children thrive. We have put in extensive effort to ensure that each room within the home is child-focused, and, in places, the décor displays each child’s personality.
The children living in Millies have, and continue to make, outstanding progress and have a positive experience while living here. Children have an influential voice within the home, and they contribute to recruitment, team members appraisals, activity and menu planning. At Millie’s Courtyard – Courtyard Care, children are developing their independent living skills alongside practical skills. They are learning how to budget and be aspirational about their futures whilst also enjoying new experiences, such as I Sky, going on a speed boat and going on holiday.
In January 2022 Millies received Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ in all areas, one comment read:
‘Staff are creative and playful in their approaches with the children. They initiate interesting and fun activities that engage and stimulate children.’
