Cartref Croeso care home is situated on the outskirts of a small village called Llandybie. It is an 8-bedroom property with 8 individual flats, tailored to the needs of the people we support.
I have been working with Swanton Care for over 5 years, I have managed residential and supported living homes, most recently taking on a new position in 2020 as registered manager for GRS care.
I am passionate about my role and enjoy making a difference to the lives of the people we support. My position gives me the opportunity to enhance the quality of life for the people we support. Most recently I have been encouraging the people we support to be involved in the recruitment of their support teams. This helps with the onboarding process and also makes sure their voice is heard.
I believe in a person-centred approach and along with our ETHOS, Every Moment Matters makes an enormous difference to the lives of the people we support and our team members supporting them. I am passionate about developing my teams and seeing team members achieve their goals gives me immense pleasure.
I joined Swanton Care in September 2006 as a Support Worker at Maesteilo care home, since then I have gradually progressed through to Team Leader, Deputy Manager, Home Manager and most recently to Regional Director of Wales in July 2022. Throughout my time with Swanton Care, they have supported me through my Level 3 and Level 5 management qualification in Health and Social Care.
I have supported people with learning disabilities and autism for over 16 years, the knowledge and skills gained during this time are invaluable and has supported my progression through to my current role. My philosophy is to provide person-centred care that embraces safe and meaningful support for those in our care, encouraging growth and opportunity. I am a strong believer that working together is best, and working in partnership with the people we support brings more positive and meaningful outcomes.
During my seven years of being a Manager, I have helped develop 4 members of my team who then progressed to Deputy or Managers. Encouraging my team to develop and grow always brings a smile to my face and I look forward to continuing this throughout my role as Regional Director.
I became a Chief Operating Officer in July 2022, prior to this I was Regional Director to Values in Care for 2 years. During my time in the social care sector, I have gained a wealth of experience, starting my career as a young Support Worker in 2003, progressing through roles such as Keyworker, Manager and Area Manager.
I have loved gaining qualifications along the way, including a Level 5 in Leadership and Management and an ILM Level 5 (The Institute of Leadership and Management), this has helped me to support the people in our care to have a better quality of life. I also have a keen interest in Positive Behavioural Support and am continuing my learning by undertaking a Diploma in this specialist area.
During my 19 years in the social care sector, I have always worked in complex homes for people with learning disabilities and autism, leading and directing teams to ensure we offer the best care possible to the people we support. Growing organically has ensured that I have vast knowledge, experience and understanding in the care sector.
At Cartref Croeso - Swanton Care, the people we support are encouraged to be as independent as possible with support from our care team to upskill and promote their individualism. This includes supporting those in our care to volunteer or work in the local community.
Our home is very diverse as every person at Cartref has different hobbies and interests; however, we always look to provide days out to local attractions or activities, such as bowling or the cinema.
We support people to enable them to lead a positive and fulfilling life to achieve personal goals and ambitions. We believe the happiness of the people we support is at the heart of everything, and ensuring we provide a person-centred approach allows the people we support to live their best life!
We received some great feedback in our last CIW report –
“People are treated with respect and care workers show genuine affection towards people living in Cartref Croeso”
