Friendships flourish across Swanton services in Wales

Colleagues at Swanton’s Maesawel service are making sure the people they support forge friendships thanks to regular local catch-ups.

The sociable service has been making the time to visit nearby Ynysdwela and Oaktree houses to get to know the people there.

Not only are the happy visits a chance for people supported at each service to connect, but everybody gets to know their fellow Swanton colleagues, too.

The result has been some lovely new connections that are providing meaningful moments for all concerned.

Maesawel’s Dwayne Harries said: “Everyone here loves getting out and about to our neighbouring services, and we always get a warm welcome.

“It’s a great way to keep busy, make friends and enjoy quality time together.

“We host the other services too, and it’s created a lovely, family feel between us.

“Everyone really looks forward to the visits.”

Whichever service is playing host will pop the kettle on and pass round the biscuit tin when their guests arrive.

It’s a very simple but effective way to help people supported at the service build their social network and confidence.

Dwayne adds: “It’s always gratifying to see the people we support having a lovely time with their peers.

“It’s a great way to build friendships in a gentle and organic way, with no pressure and within the comfortable houses they live.

“We look forward to visiting other services and hosting anyone who fancies dropping into Maesawel for a cuppa.”
