Sampson Park and Bostock Step Up For Autism Fundraiser

Dedicated colleagues and people supported at Sampson Park and Bostock clocked up over 240,000 steps as part of a Walk For Autism fundraiser.

Scheme Manager Annabelle Turner and 19 team members across the two services signed up for the eight-day challenge, where they pledged to do 10,000 steps a day each.

Excitingly, Heather, Jamie, Megan and Shannon, who are supported at the services, also chose to join as part of Team Sampson Park and Bostock.

According to Annabelle, everyone went over and above to ensure they did their bit. They’ve already raised over £150, with more donations coming in.

Annabelle said: “It’s fair to say that Walk For Autism pushed many of us far outside our comfort zones!

“We were doing laps around the bungalow and car park just to get the correct number of steps in.

“What was fantastic, though, was how much the people we support got into the challenge.

“They were finding us to ask when we were going walking and joining in when we were doing the emergency steps to boost our totals.”

The group was so determined to achieve their goals that some stayed up late at night to walk valuable steps.

But it hasn’t put them off, as they are already looking to their next charity challenge.

Annabelle said: “It meant a lot to us to raise funds for people living with autism.

“We’ve decided to do a regular walking session to keep up our fitness, especially as the people we support enjoyed it so much.

“Heather lives with autism, and she was so pleased to know the fundraiser was to help people like her.

“She’s now talking about us doing The Race For Life and planning next year’s Walk For Autism, so we won’t be slowing down!”

Swanton has donated £100 to the Sampson Park and Bostock fundraiser in recognition of the group’s excellent achievement.
