Swanton House Hosts A Meeting Of The Minds

An extraordinary conversation between two highly intellectual people provided food for thought at Swanton House this January.

Michael, who is supported at the Norfolk service, made a special request to Service Manager Nigel Snelling, asking for the opportunity to debate his thoughts and theories with an intellectual individual.

Nigel knew that whoever he approached would need to be exceptional as Michael has worked with lecturers at the University of East Anglia and holds a degree in psychology.

So Nigel called in a favour and arranged for eminent academic Professor Cedrick Cullingford to come to Swanton House to meet with Michael.

Nigel said: “I knew that Michael would thoroughly enjoy talking with Professor Cullingford, who has written several books and lectured worldwide.

“Since he retired from the University of Huddersfield, Professor Cullingford has lived in Norfolk, so I approached him with Michael’s request.

“We were thrilled when he agreed to visit, and we hosted the meeting at Swanton House.

“Michael got so much out of the conversation and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Professor Cullingford.”

One of the subjects they discussed was philosophy and the interpretation of famous quotes from celebrated thinkers.

Nigel said: “These are two very clever people, and Michael appreciated the chance to debate, discuss and dissect one of his favourite subjects.

“When he came to me with this request, I knew it wouldn’t be easy to fulfil, but I wanted to do whatever I could to make it happen.

“I am so grateful that Professor Cullingford took the time to meet with Michael because it had a profoundly positive impact on him.”
