Team Telford’s successful jobs fair helps locals understand power of social care

Staff from Swanton services around Telford took part in a two-day job fair to promote their services and tell locals why a career in social care could be so rewarding.

The Swanton team were one of eight local organisations, including the NHS, meeting with members of the public at the National Promotions-organised event.

The event was led by Zoe Carter, Peripatetic Care Manager, and Susan Gibson, Locality Manager.

Zoe said: “We’re lucky at the moment that all of our services are well staffed, but it was still a great opportunity for the team to go out and to meet the public and to tell them what we do.

“There’s a lot of misunderstanding about social care, people always think of elderly care or domiciliary care, but when they find out what we do they are fascinated and want to know more.

“We met with a lot of students over the two days who were keen to find out about bank working and how they could combine it with their studies.”

Zoe and Susan were supported by Kelly Wood, Jade Pitchford Gregory, Annabelle Turner, Sandra Frimpong, Steph East and Lisa Goldsmith from nearby services Magnolia, Deepdale, Sampson Park and The Crown.

Zoe said the jobs fair was such a success that they would definitely do it again.

She added: “Everyone took the event very seriously and wanted to do their very best to show the huge difference that Swanton makes for the People We Support.

“It was a real success and we’ll definitely be back for the next one.”
