I began my career as a part-time Support Worker and have progressed through roles including Senior Support Worker, Deputy Manager, PBS Practice Lead, and Registered Manager. My experience spans a variety of service environments, supporting adults of all ages with intellectual disabilities, neurodiversity, and autism. I have also worked with young adults with mental health diagnoses, forensic backgrounds, and elderly adults with dual diagnoses of intellectual disability and dementia. Additionally, I have experience in acquired brain injury units and specialist services for Huntington’s disease.

As a Practice Lead, I supported the development of PBS plans and training and contributed to a local authority working group on PBS policy planning. I am a qualified trainer in de-escalation, personal safety, and crisis management, and led a project that significantly reduced restrictive practices—resulting in a published case study in partnership with an external organization. My work has also focused on creating capable environments and holistic, therapeutic support packages that enhance the lives of people using services.

I maintain strong professional links with the Scottish Commission for People with a Learning Disability (SCLD) and Restraint Reduction Scotland (RRS).

I am proud to now be part of the Swanton team at Deanston House. I am deeply passionate about human rights, reducing restrictions, and championing equality, diversity, and opportunities for both the people we support and our staff team.
