I have been the Service Manager of The Cedars – Swanton Care, since August 2013 and I have encouraged innovation and positive risk taking, both with the people we support and my team to enhance lifestyle choices and opportunities. I have 27 years’ experience within learning disabilities and autism services both in educational settings, day services and residential homes. I am also a qualified teacher, manager and verifier within vocational and independence skills.
My highest priority is to ensure we provide an excellent quality of life and empowerment, whilst providing the people we support with ample opportunities to enjoy the lifestyle of their choosing. The standards and support are realised throughout Swanton Care from all levels regardless of role, it is clear in the quality of support planning and outside professional advice that we receive.
I joined Swanton in 2017 as a service manager and worked with the team to expand supported living services as well as manage residential homes. In time, I became regional director for the North-East in 2021. I learned very early on in my career with Swanton that the company is very passionate about the people we support, their homes and enriching their quality of life, which aligns with my own values.
I moved to England from Mumbai, India, in 2005 for education which I continued to do for several years. During this time, I integrated with people from many countries and cultures, and this helped broaden my viewpoints massively. I firmly believe this helped me to embrace diversity and value varied inputs throughout my career, which I have been in since 2006.
I understand that being in a support environment can be difficult. Together, the team and I are here to help in empowering and supporting those in our care to feel safe and live the lives they wish to lead.
I started my career as a Support Worker when I graduated university in 2004, progressing my way through Deputy Manager and Home Manager, eventually joining Swanton in 2018 working as a Locality Manager covering services in and around Hull.
I have successfully held registrations for, and worked in, a full range of services from Supported Living to challenging Residential homes.
I share Swanton Care’s passion for ensuring that the vulnerable people in our care have the best life and opportunities possible. I believe this is achieved by making sure the people we support have their voices heard and that our teams are appropriately trained ad supported to provide this care.
I feel privileged to work in such a rewarding sector with a fantastic team, I look forward to what the future will bring for the people we support and our organization.
We believe that every person is different and therefore our approach to each person we support is unique and person centred. At The Cedars – Swanton Care, life is for living and we support and enable the people we support to have dreams and aspirations to live the life they want to.
As a team we do not pre-judge their decisions, we believe in empowerment and therefore actively engage with those in our care to make their own decisions, choices and to take positive risks. Our team is a committed, trained, and dedicated workforce with the skills to provide the right care for the people we support, making sure that they are safe, feel involved and are given a voice.
