For David, who is supported in Hull, a collection of treasured photographs tells the story of a lifetime of memories, friendships, adventures and important moments.
Over the years, David had carefully kept photographs from his childhood, school days, previous homes and the many activities he has enjoyed throughout his life. As these treasured photographs began to crease and become damaged with age, the team wanted to find a meaningful way to protect them while creating something David could proudly display and enjoy.
The team carefully scanned each photograph before creating a personalised collage, which was then laminated to help preserve David's collection. By saving digital copies, the collage can also be reproduced in the future if needed, ensuring these treasured memories can continue to be enjoyed.
When David saw the collage for the first time, his reaction said it all. His face lit up with a huge smile as he admired the finished piece before proudly showing it to the team.
Jenny, Registered Manager, said: “Photographs are part of a person’s history and there is no way to replace David’s photos, so it was important to treat them as the treasures they are. David relies on us to help preserve and care for these memories, allowing him to look back on the important moments that have shaped his life.”
Looking through the photographs also sparked conversations about David’s past. He was able to recognise himself in school photographs from when he was a young boy, pointing himself out in group photographs and reminiscing about some of the special moments they captured.
For the team, creating the collage was about much more than protecting old photographs. It was about celebrating David’s life, recognising what matters most to him and creating something personal that reflected the people, experiences and milestones that have shaped who he is today.
Jenny added: “Every person we support has their own unique story, and understanding those stories helps us provide truly person-centred support. David wasn’t able to ask for a collage, but because we knew how much his photographs meant to him, we were able to create something that preserves those memories in a meaningful way.”
The finished collage not only helps protect David's treasured photographs but also celebrates the experiences and moments that have shaped his life.
