Smiley marked a huge milestone this autumn as he rang the bell in the hospital to signal the end of his cancer treatment.
It’s been three years since Smiley, who is supported at Emerald Care’s Belvedere service, was diagnosed, and he’s shown incredible bravery in the face of the disease.
So, it was no wonder he was in the mood to celebrate as the hospital staff and fellow patients lined up to watch Smiley ‘ring the bell’ at the end of his chemotherapy treatment.
Support Worker Agnes Ashong said it was an emotional moment.
Agnes said: “Everyone cheered when Smiley rang the bell, which was lovely.
“The nurses had set up a little celebration for him, and he was so happy.
“Smiley has been really good at coping with the chemo. Although he has occasional bad days, he’s mostly happy.
“But he’s thrilled to have finally reached the end of treatment.”
Following the celebrations in the hospital, Smiley returned home to a surprise party.
Agnes said: “We wanted to celebrate in style, so when Smily arrived back at Belvedere, everybody was cheering for him.
“We’d got decorations and balloons and invited Smiley’s sister Angela, who means the world to him, to join the party.
“Everyone at Belvedere is delighted that Smiley has finally finished the treatment, and we’re glad we were able to give him the best support we could during this difficult time.
“Here’s hoping the future is full of health and happiness for Smiley.”
