Carers Week 2023: The Old Vicarage Hails Team Spirit in Difficult Times

Colleagues at The Old Vicarage have been commended for going over and above to support each other when times get tough.

For Carers Week in June 2023, Service Manager Naomi Davies shared a wonderful example of how her team look out for each other.

Naomi said that the excellent team spirit at The Old Vicarage was demonstrated perfectly when they encountered an unexpected snow day in March this year.

Transport issues looked set to cause chaos until the Support Workers joined forces to solve the problem.

Naomi said: “Nobody expected it to snow that day, and it’s difficult to get to The Old Vicarage when we’ve had snowfall.

“Ashleigh and Nichola had been working all night with the people we support but knew their colleagues might not be able to get in, so they offered to stay on.

“However, their colleague Rhys was already en-route and, despite a difficult journey, managed to pick up Laura, who’d walked through the snow to a pick-up place so he could collect her.

“Not only that, but Chris and Krystal, who live locally, also offered to come in and support because they’d be able to get there more easily than others who might be snowed in.

“Thanks to this thoughtfulness and effort, Ashleigh and Nichola were able to get home to sleep. It was brilliant teamwork.”

Each member of the team at The Old Vicarage understands how vital their care and support are to the people who live there.

Carer’s Week is held to recognise the incredible contribution workers in the care sector make to our society.

Naomi added: “Care work is a vocation, and our team prove day after day how much they care.

“I’m proud of each and every one of them for being exceptional carers and wonderful people.”
