The team at Ger-Y-Nant are celebrating after receiving Excellent ratings in their latest CIW inspection — a result that reflects their dedication, compassion, and teamwork, both to the people we support and to each other.
For the team, the outcome was a moment of pride and recognition. We caught up with a very proud Maria, Registered Manager, to talk about the achievement.
“Following the inspection, both the team and I felt a deep sense of pride and validation. This positive result has really boosted morale and reaffirmed our confidence in the quality of care we deliver. As the manager, I am truly grateful for the collective effort that made this success possible,” said Maria.
Inspectors praised the team for their commitment to empowering the people we support through person-centred support. From co-produced activity schedules and accessible formats such as widgets, to daily active support that encourages independence, the Ger-Y-Nant team continues to ensure that every person has a voice in shaping their care. Strong family involvement and community connections were also highlighted as key strengths.
The inspection also brought moments of pride for the staff team. The inspector commended the service for “delivering an excellent standard of person-centred care”, noting how individuals are supported to achieve their personal outcomes. Maria reflected: “It was especially rewarding to see the inspector acknowledge the thoughtful, tailored support plans and the meaningful relationships we foster with individuals and their families.”
Positive staff interactions were another highlight of the report. Relationships are built through consistent, respectful and empathetic engagement. Staff take the time to understand each individual’s background, interests, and goals, supporting them in everyday tasks and creating shared experiences that strengthen bonds and promote independence.
The report also noted that the people we support are active in their community. From trips to cafés, shopping and bus travel, to social clubs and local parks, individuals enjoy activities that build confidence, social skills, and a strong sense of belonging.
Leadership and management were rated Excellent, with inspectors noting the positive culture created at the service. Maria explained: “Supporting and motivating the team starts with creating an environment where everyone feels valued. Open communication, recognising achievements, and encouraging development are central to our approach. This helps us maintain a strong, committed workforce that consistently delivers high-quality care.”
Staff told inspectors they feel supported, and the culture of recognition and inclusion was praised. “I maintain high morale by being approachable, recognising individual and team achievements, and encouraging open communication. Celebrating the impact of their care keeps the team motivated and engaged,” Maria added.
The team are determined to build on their success. “Following the inspection, our focus is on maintaining these high standards and continuing to strengthen our service. By reflecting on feedback, engaging the team, and enhancing collaboration with individuals and families, we aim to grow even stronger,” said Maria.
Above all, the inspection highlighted the dedication and compassion of the Ger-Y-Nant team. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together. The outcome reflects the professionalism and commitment each of my team brings to their role every day. This success belongs to all of us!” Maria shared.
Divisional Director Zena also shared her praise: “This is a fantastic achievement for Maria and the whole team at Ger-Y-Nant. Their commitment to person-centred care and creating positive experiences for the people we support is truly inspiring. They should all be incredibly proud of this recognition.”
Ger-Y-Nant’s results are a shining example of how teamwork, compassion, and person-centred care can create life-changing outcomes for the people we support — and we couldn’t be prouder of Maria and the team!
