It’s been a summer of creativity and achievement for Kevita, who is supported in our Swanton Community Services in Hampshire. Earlier this year, Kevita proudly showcased her artwork at a local exhibition — a milestone moment that celebrated both her talent and her growing independence.
Kevita joined the Hampshire service in May this year and has already made a huge impression with her enthusiasm for learning, her artistic flair, and her commitment to personal growth. She enjoys drawing, gaming, and completing new courses, and has recently enrolled on an open counselling course with Highbury College.
The opportunity to join The King’s Trust ‘Get Started with Art and Creativity’ programme was one she couldn’t resist — having already completed several other courses with the organisation. “I enjoy drawing and painting,” she said. “When I found out my work would be shown in an exhibition, I was happy, excited, and nervous all at the same time.”
At the exhibition, Kevita proudly displayed a range of her creations, including lino prints, collages, still-life drawings, self-portraits, and origami. Her personal favourite? The lino prints of buildings from the local community — a creative reflection of the area she’s getting to know and love.
“It was really exciting seeing my work on show,” Kevita said. “Taking part helped me improve my art skills and also gave me the confidence to travel independently by public transport.”
Her support team couldn’t be prouder of her achievements. Ashleigh Swindlehurst, Registered Manager, shared:
“We’re all so proud of Kevita and everything she’s achieved. She’s found meaningful things to do within the community and continues to push herself to learn and grow. The whole support team are delighted to see her confidence and creativity flourish — she’s worked so hard and truly deserves this recognition.”
Since completing the art course, Kevita has continued creating artwork at home and has even completed another King’s Trust programme focused on confidence building, teamwork, and leadership. The course included photography projects, community volunteering, and outdoor activities — all of which helped strengthen her skills and self-belief.
Reflecting on her journey, Kevita said: “I’m proud of myself for keeping up with the course and achieving something. It’s helped me move on to more opportunities and do things I really enjoy.”
Her story is a brilliant example of what can happen when creativity, confidence, and the right support come together — a true celebration of independence and achievement.
