Deanston House duo conquer the ‘8-mile’ challenge for diabetes

Two big-hearted residents from Deanston House, in Doune (near Dunblane) raised a total of £245 for Diabetes UK last month by taking part in the Glasgow Wellness Walk.

Adam and Amy completed the eight-mile walk in 30,000 steps – and took in many of the city’s sights during the challenge.

The pair were joined by staff members Celia Peat and Raymond Fisher on their fundraising challenge, and all four got a medal at the finishing line!

The walk began at Kelvingrove Park and continued through many Glasgow neighbourhoods, passing famous landmarks including the People's Palace, the Necropolis, Merchant City, the Duke of Wellington statue, Glasgow Cathedral and, of course, the mighty River Clyde.

Celia said it was a wonderful day out and that she was immensely proud of Adam and Amy’s achievement.

She said: “It was a great event, and thankfully the weather held for us and the sun was out.

“Both Adam and Amy were determined to take part and to do their bit to support Diabetes UK and managed to raise a fantastic amount of money.

“We couldn’t be prouder of them – after all, eight miles is more than just a little stroll around the corner, I know my feet were feeling it by the end!”

In total 1,642 people took part in this year’s Glasgow Wellness Walk and raised between them a staggering £86,000 and counting.
