Former aviation industry pro Dwayne Harries has proved that you can excel in a whole new industry by winning a nomination for a prestigious care award.
Dwyane is nominated in The Care Home Worker category at the National Care Awards, just four years after joining the Maesawel service as a support worker.
Having worked his way up to Team Leader, Dwyane is a huge advocate of helping others to shine and has been a passionate mentor for new team members.
Regional Director Kuba Nowak said that he’s not surprised that Dwyane’s attitude and approach have caught the eye of the awards judges.
Kuba said: “Dwyane is a terrific member of the team and really makes a difference in the lives of the people we support.
“Dwyane has an inclusive approach that shines through in training sessions, and one of the people we support, who is usually disinterested in other activities, eagerly engages when he is leading.
“That’s had a hugely positive impact on his wellbeing, and his family have been delighted with the results.
“Dwayne also goes out of his way to involve the people we support in home checks and audits so they can feel involved.
“Helping Dwayne with tasks like checking the fire alarm gives them a sense of purpose and importance, which is hugely beneficial to wellbeing.”
Given his passion for learning and development, Dwyane is very active in helping colleagues to upskill.
Kuba added: “Dwayne is always looking for ways to provide learning and development opportunities to his colleagues.
“We’ve seen staff confidence levels soar thanks to his encouragement and guidance.
“Dwayne is working towards his Level 4 Management Qualification and Level 3 in Education and Training so he can do even more in his role and progress.
“We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the National Care Awards judges are equally wowed by Dwayne’s work and that he wins the award.”
