Emily’s House Raises Over £700 in Santa Dash Fundraiser for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital

On Sunday 7th December, children and team from Emily’s House joined hundreds of Santa's in Liverpool for the annual Santa Dash 5K, taking part in the route together with huge smiles and an even bigger purpose — raising over £700 and counting for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

The idea came after the children enjoyed taking part in a colour run earlier this year, and the team wanted to keep that joy going while doing something meaningful for others. Victoria Comrie, Interim Manager at Emily’s House, said, “We wanted to give something back to the community — and what better way than dressing up as Santa and raising money for Alder Hey!”

In the lead-up to the event, staff used social stories and photos to help the children understand what the day would look like, why they were taking part, and what they might see and hear. On the morning of the dash, everyone wrapped up warm under their Santa suits and headed out into Liverpool’s festive, lively streets — a sea of red coats, jingling hats, music and Christmas energy.

Even the rain didn’t dampen spirits. The children were supported at a pace that suited them, with staff keeping enthusiasm high, offering encouragement and celebrating achievements along the way. Liverpool’s hills made it a real effort at times, but teamwork, laughter and determination carried the group forward.

Crossing the finish line was unforgettable. Snow machines blasted, music played, and Christmas characters cheered from the sidelines — a sensory celebration that made the children beam. One young person, D, especially loved it, becoming excited and animated as snow drifted around them.

Victoria shared how proud she was of everyone involved. “We were blown away with everyone’s generosity — it’s a huge accomplishment for everyone to raise that amount of money.” Parents also shared lovely feedback after receiving photos from the day, delighted to see their children taking part and enjoying something so special.

Experiences like this are about far more than fundraising. They help build confidence, create shared memories, and give children the chance to take part in meaningful community activities with support and encouragement. As Victoria said, “Shared experiences that are fun and meaningful create powerful connections.”

Emily’s House already hopes to take part in more events like this in future. “We’d love to do two a year — one in the summer and one in the winter,” Victoria added. She also shared a heartfelt thank you: “Thank you to the staff for providing the children with yet another amazing experience — not allowing disabilities to define them or become a barrier to meaningful activities.”

A huge well done to everyone at Emily’s House — a lot of money raised, and a day full of pride, joy and festive magic.

Swanton Group was delighted to donate £100 to support the efforts of the children and our dedicated team members.
