Potential Swanton Support Workers were put through their paces at a recent interview day when Emma from Juniper Court joined the panel.
Emma worked with Scheme Manager Emma Page to devise questions she wanted to pose to the candidates.
The candidates were interviewing to be part of the support team at Swanton’s new service James Reckitt, which will be part of Swanton Supported Living Hull.
Emma spent the day with Emma and administrator Alice Walker as they conducted the interviews.
Emma Page said: “It was invaluable to have Emma’s support during the interviews – her questions were fantastic.
“She has a unique insight into what makes a good Support Worker and could help the candidates understand more about what the role entails.
“We found the answers that were inspired by Emma’s questions to be so useful in helping us to select people to work at the new service.
“I know that Emma got a lot out of the process too.”
There were five specific questions that Emma wanted to pose to the candidates.
She wanted to know what they thought makes a good support worker, the activities they like taking part in, whether they had experience supporting people with epilepsy, if they knew what person-centred care is and if they knew how to safeguard the people they support.
The candidates were given the chance to talk about their answers with the panel, including Emma herself.
Now, Emma is keen to get involved during future recruitment drives.
Emma said: “I have really enjoyed asking questions from a personal point of view of what I would like my support workers to be like.
“I would love to take part again.”
