Courtyard Care: From Bouncy Castles to Beach Days: Rowan House Shines

It’s been a summer full of celebration and adventure for the young people at Rowan House, with a fantastic double birthday party and a fun-filled holiday to Devon Cliffs.

The party was held to celebrate NF’s 14th birthday and AS’s 15th birthday, and the whole home came together to make it a day to remember. The garden was transformed with an ice cream van, bouncy castle, bouncy slide, music and even a swimming pool. The theme reflected the boys’ favourite things — doughnuts and biscuits — with balloons and banners decorating the house. Friends, family and other homes joined the celebrations, and staff even came in on their days off to help out. Party bags were given out at the end, and the day ended with a huge water fight that had everyone laughing together.

Soon after, the young people enjoyed a holiday to Devon Cliffs, where the focus was on fun, confidence and trying new things. AS grew in independence by walking more and using his wheelchair less, while NF overcame his anxiety to stay for the full week. The group loved spending time at the beach, with OCL, FZ and AZ proudly learning to say the word “beach.” Highlights included AZ bravely doing the “big jump” into the pool and NF splashing staff in the sea before bursting into belly laughs.

“The boys absolutely loved it,” said Kimberlea-Ann, Deputy Manager at Rowan House. “At the party their favourite part was definitely the bouncy slide and the ice cream van, going up and down the slide with staff and laughing non-stop. On holiday, it was wonderful to see them enjoying the beach, playing in the sea and taking part in activities with such confidence.”

Kimberlea-Ann added: “The staff team made sure everything was led by the young people, focusing on their wishes and feelings. We wanted to create activities that brought laughter and togetherness, while also helping to build friendships and confidence. Inviting other homes to the birthday party made it even more special and gave everyone the chance to form new connections.”

Events like these are about so much more than parties and holidays. They give young people the opportunity to try new things, overcome fears and develop positive relationships with both staff and peers. At Rowan House, it’s about creating a true sense of belonging — and making memories that will last a lifetime.

A huge thank you goes to all the dedicated team members who made this a summer to remember — your energy, creativity and care made every moment even brighter.
