Gemma Goes Green With Upcycling Project

There was no trip to a flatpack furniture seller for eco-friendly Gemma this summer, as she opted to upcycle her bedroom drawers instead of replacing them.

Gemma, who loves nothing more than keeping her things nice and tidy, felt her chest of drawers had become more shabby than chic.

However, instead of rushing out to replace them, Gemma felt she could give the item some love to bring it back to life.

Glangarnant Service Manager Michelle Williams said Gemma’s efforts were brilliant for the planet and her pocket.

Michelle said: “Once Gemma had decided to upcycle her chest of drawers, her support team helped her find a paint colour to compliment her other furniture and then go out to buy the paint.

“Once the paint and all the other bits she needed were purchased, Gemma chose a day to do the upcycling.

“The transformation is amazing, and she’s thrilled with her ‘new’ bedroom drawers.”

As well as making fantastic use of her existing set of drawers, Gemma has also saved herself money.

She’s already saving for a big holiday, so this project has helped boost the coffers.

Michelle added: “Gemma’s dream is to go to Disneyland Paris next year, and she’s saving in earnest.

“Thanks to her thrifty and imaginative upcycling, she’s added more to the Disneyland fund.

“It’s terrific to see Gemma and her support workers do these projects together. The results are fantastic, and we can’t wait to see what she turns her hand to next.”
