Colleagues and people we support at Glangarnant House in Wales are celebrating after completing an incredible 474-mile charity bike ride around Wales — all from their exercise bike.
The challenge took place over two weeks from 20 April to 3 May, raising money for ANDYSMANCLUB, a men’s suicide prevention charity offering free peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and online.
Staff and people we support took turns covering the miles, working together to reach the full 474-mile distance. The challenge meant a great deal to everyone involved, particularly for Luke, a person we support, and his family following the loss of his brother, Ceri, in recent years.
The team raised an amazing £1,270, going beyond their original target thanks to the support of families, friends, and the wider community. Swanton was also proud to contribute with a donation in support of this important cause. Michelle, Registered Manager, said:
“We’re all very proud of the money we have raised for such an incredible charity, and one that’s so close to our hearts.”
She added, “It just goes to show how much people support us in everything we do. We all work as a team — that includes families too.”
There was a great atmosphere throughout the challenge, with plenty of encouragement along the way. Everyone got involved, supporting one another to keep going and ensuring no one was left out. Michelle shared, “Everyone loved every minute! It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, with plenty of encouragement and support all the way through.”
A highlight for many was when Luke’s parents joined during a visit to Glangarnant. Seeing them get involved meant a great deal to everyone taking part and reminded them all of the importance of raising awareness.
The final mile brought everything together, with Luke completing it surrounded by cheers, flags, and banners. It was a proud and uplifting moment, full of energy and celebration — described by Michelle as “a very rowdy last mile” and “loud and full of excitement… fantastic to see everyone come together.”
Taking on this challenge has brought people even closer. It’s been a real team effort from start to finish, showing what can be achieved when everyone supports one another. Michelle added, “It’s made us even stronger, to be honest. It shows how much we care and that we can take on any challenge together.”
For the team, raising money for such an important cause has been the biggest reward. Michelle’s advice to others thinking about doing something similar is simple: “Just do it! It’s lots of fun, and being able to say we’ve raised money for such a great charity has been the best part.”
The team have been overwhelmed by the support they’ve received and would like to thank everyone who donated and encouraged them along the way. After such a positive experience, they are already hinting there could be more to come.
A huge well done to everyone involved — a fantastic achievement for a truly important cause!
