Happy Earth Day From Glangarnant

The future of the planet was the focus of a busy day of activities at Swanton’s Glangarnant service in Garnant.

The people supported at the service chose to spend Earth Day 2024 doing a range of things to protect the environment.

For Simon and Hayley, it was the day for litter picking as they headed out to St Elli Bay beach to support the Planet Vs Plastic initiative.

Along the stunning coastline, which they both love, the industrious duo collected 56 plastic bottles for disposal.

Service Manager Michelle Williams said: “This is a terrific effort from Simon and Hayley.

“It’s devastating that people would visit such a beautiful stretch of coast and dump plastic bottles on the beach.

“The people we support know that the only thing you should leave on the sand is footprints, so they did the hard work of clearing up to rid our beautiful beach of plastics.’

Meanwhile, back at Glangarnant, Hayley was busy making DIY bird feeders.

She wanted to ensure the adorable birdlife that visits the garden has a feast to enjoy when they land.

Michelle added: “Making bird feeders is a lovely, cathartic craft, and it brings so much joy.

“Not only was Hayley able to take pride in making something herself, but she’ll be able to watch the birds landing and enjoying what she did for them.

“That’s an amazing way to mark Earth Day.”
