Jade has been shining at SCS Telford after stepping into a new role supporting the Monthly Monday Club, where she works alongside Brenda from Furnace Lane, helping with activities, welcoming people, and bringing brilliant energy to the group. It’s a role that’s helping her build confidence, develop skills and feel proud of herself — and she’s thriving in it.
Jade has previous voluntary experience through her time at Severn Hospice, where she enjoyed helping others and being part of a team. Although she no longer works there, the experience showed how much she values purpose and connection — and also highlighted that she benefits from extra support to manage emotions and feel secure in a role. The Monday Club now offers a positive, supported environment for Jade to grow at her pace, with guidance and encouragement around her.
When the opportunity came up to get involved with the club, it felt like a natural step forward. Her enthusiasm, caring nature and love for helping others made her a brilliant fit. Zoe shared how meaningful this opportunity has been for Jade.
“Jade likes helping people — it makes her feel good,” she said. “She agreed straight away that being involved felt important to her.”
Since stepping into the role, Jade has embraced it wholeheartedly. She brings ideas, welcomes people warmly, collects donations, and even loans her karaoke machine to make the afternoon sessions fun and social. During the November get-together, Zoe noticed just how confidently Jade was interacting — chatting, supporting others and sharing her thoughts with the group.
Her connection with Brenda has grown beautifully, and Jade has been invited to join another group Brenda runs — giving her more opportunities to meet new people, build friendships and feel part of a community. “Jade thrives on nurturing, acceptance and meaningful connections — and she’s really starting to experience that,” Zoe shared.
With support from her Scheme Manager, Jade will now be working on new skills such as making phone calls and sharing information between services — gentle confidence-building steps. She will also be taking on the Deepdale newsletter, becoming the second person we support to hold this responsibility. Jade has shared hopes of improving her reading and writing further, with the longer-term dream of going to college. With structure, encouragement and positive experiences like this, Zoe believes this could one day become possible.
With the festive season ahead, Jade is also helping staff prepare for the Christmas Party on 19th December at the Sir John Bayley Club, creating table decorations for everyone to enjoy — another space where she can shine.
Feedback from staff has been filled with praise. Brenda described Jade as “motivated and getting so much out of it.” Her bubbly personality and welcoming approach help others feel comfortable, and her presence has already made a real difference to the atmosphere in the room.
Jade has expressed how much she enjoys working with Brenda and being part of the planning. Her journey so far is a beautiful example of how the right support, opportunity and environment can help someone grow, feel valued and believe in themselves.
Well done, Jade — we’re incredibly proud of everything you’re achieving.
Opportunities like this matter. They give the people we support the chance to grow skills at their pace, build confidence through real responsibility, and feel valued for what they bring to others. Small steps — a phone call, welcoming someone new, creating decorations or sharing ideas — all add up to independence, pride and purpose. Jade’s journey is a perfect reminder that empowerment isn’t always about big leaps, but about being given the chance to try, belong and shine.
