Joel’s New Wheels Open Up His World

The new year has got off to a fantastic start for Ger Y Nant’s Joel, thanks to the arrival of his specially adapted vehicle.

His new wheels arrived recently and now Joel is getting busy exploring the local area from the comfort of the back seat.

This fantastic development has changed the game for Joel, who is now able to start getting out into the local community in the way he enjoys.

So far, he’s been to the park to see the ducks, to play pool at the club in Treharris and enjoyed lunch at the local café.

Service Manager Maria Parker said: “This is a massive step forward for Joel as his vehicle means he has started interacting with people outside the house.

“He’s had some challenges over the past few months, but now he can travel so easily, it’s transformed his quality of life.

“It’s terrific for his support team as they are now able to do so many more activities with him, and Joel always lets them know what he enjoys.

“We are all delighted to see Joel becoming part of the local community again.”

Having his vehicle on hand means Joel can choose to do the things he most enjoys.

Maria added: “Joel communicates with us non-verbally, so he’ll let us know his choices by smiling or nodding his head.

“If he doesn’t want to do something, he just shakes his head so we are able to understand when something isn’t the right fit for him.

“What’s fantastic is that we’ve had so many smiles lately as Joel is doing the activities he loves again, and that’s the best way we could have begun 2025.”
