Learning Through Experience: A Hands-On PBS, Autism & Learning Disabilities Session

Last month, colleagues in the North East got stuck into an interactive training session focused on Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), autism, and learning disabilities—led by our newest L&D team member, Suki Singh.

The session covered all the core knowledge and video resources that are part of the programme, but what really brought it to life were the hands-on activities. These were designed to help staff gain a deeper, more empathetic understanding of what life can be like for people with autism or learning disabilities.

Through these activities, staff explored how communication and understanding can feel very different for those on the autism spectrum. It was a fun, engaging session—but also powerful and thought-provoking.

Learning and Development Lead North East Suki said: "It was fantastic to see how open and involved everyone was. The team brought so much energy and were really up for learning. That kind of enthusiasm and reflection makes such a difference to the people we support."

Staff threw themselves into it, showing a real willingness to learn and plenty of curiosity along the way. It was clear the experience had an impact and we’re proud to see such commitment to compassionate, informed care across our teams.
