There were cheers of joy from Team Glangarnant this September when Luke conquered his Pen-Y-Fan climb to raise thousands of pounds in his brother’s memory.
Luke was accompanied by Service Manager Michelle and colleagues Lucia, Nathan, Dan and Emma, as well as friends from Pant Yr Odyn on his brave quest.
Usually a homebody, Luke’s family weren’t sure whether he’d be able to master the challenge presented by the mountain but were thrilled to be proved wrong.
So far, Luke’s fundraiser has made £3,300 in aid of Andy’s Man Club, a charity that helps men struggling with mental health and thoughts of suicide.
Michelle said: “We are so proud of our Lucos the Brave!
“He was a bit anxious when we got to Pen-Y-Fan and looked up at the mountain, but with the right support and encouragement, he soon got into the walk.
“The climb was terrific, and Luke was smiling and taking in the views. I could swear that his brother Ceri knew what was happening on this day because the sun shone through as Luke climbed the mountain.
“Luke’s family was bowled over by how well he did.”
Tragically, Luke’s brother Ceri took his own life after devoting his time to helping others in need at Andy’s Man Club.
So, Luke’s walk was particularly poignant for the whole family, as they knew it was in aid of such a good cause.
Swanton donated £100 to the fundraising pot to show solidarity with Luke and Team Glangarnant.
Michelle added: “We’ve had tremendous support from Luke’s family and friends. The support and donations have been really overwhelming, and we are ever so grateful for every little bit of it.
“They’ve cheered us on the whole way, and we are so happy to have supported Luke to achieve such an incredible feat.”
