New Dog Friends Give Sarah Jane’s Confidence A Big Boost

Animal lover Sarah Jane has developed a newfound confidence around pets after spending time with some extra special pooches.

Since she moved into supported living, Sarah has missed having a family pet and is a big fan of dogs and cats.

Happily, Northeast Befriending Pet Therapy run sessions in-house, and Sarah Jane has welcome two very special new friends into her home.

Spending time grooming, patting and walking German Shepherd Lena and Cockapoo Narla has helped Sarah Jane grow in confidence.

Swanton Supported Living North East’s Deputy Manager Tracy Pochec said it’s been fantastic to see the positive impact the dogs have had on Sarah Jane’s world.

Tracy said: “Sarah Jane loves animals so much, and whenever we go out, she always stops to ask passing dog owners if she can say hello to their pets.

“She’s a very kind and responsible lady, and the sessions have been focused on things like grooming, patting and walking so she can learn the importance of each activity.

“The confidence these sessions have given her is amazing – including helping her to articulate her emotions better.”

If Sarah Jane had her way, there would be a pet therapy session every day of the week.

However, to tide her over between visits, she’s gotten to know some other very good boys and girls.

Tracy added: “I bring in my Staffie Mastiff Belle, and Team Leader Claire has a Border Terrier called Teddy who comes to play with Sarah Jane.

“We also sent an email across Swanton to ask everyone to share pictures of their dogs, a fascinating fact about them, and details of their favourite toys.

“Sarah Jane has compiled an amazing scrapbook full of Swanton dogs, which she loves.”
