A new textile club is giving people supported in West Wales the opportunity to channel their creativity and learn new skills.
Maesteilo Activity Hub Manager Karen Jeffreys is running bi-monthly sessions where she’s teaching crafts, including sewing.
Each session gives the people we support the chance to choose between doing a project set by Karen or bringing their own ideas to the table.
The results have been fantastic as each session continues to build the confidence of all who attend.
Karen said: “The textile club is an excellent way for the people we support to learn in a pressure-free and inclusive environment.
“These crafts are very relaxing, and we love to chat away as we’re doing that week’s project.
“So far, we’ve made cushions, bags, Indian quilting, make-up bags and felt keyrings, to name a few.
“It’s lovely to see the impact the sessions have on the people we support as they really boost wellbeing and bring lots of joy.”
People supported at nearby Glangarnant, Cartref Croeso and Dan Y Graig have joined people from Maesteilo Mansions at the club.
With upcoming sessions planned for knitting and crochet, Karen says that the group will continue to learn different crafts.
She added: “We like to make these sessions very flexible.
“If the people we support have some repairs they want to do to clothes or household fabrics, we can work on those.
“Alternatively, if there’s something they really want to try, we’ll support them in that too.
“The main thing is for everybody to have plenty of fun, feel proud of what they achieved and enjoy being part of the textile club.”
