Olympic Flame Burns Bright At Maes Y Bryn

Paris wasn’t the only place hosting an Olympic Games this summer as the people supported at Maes Y Bryn competed in their own sporting competition.

Various events were staged at the service, including bowling, weightlifting, darts and football.

The people supported also enjoyed an Olympics-themed craft session where they made their very own torches and medals.

Support Worker Sacha Thomas said it was a joyous day as the games got underway.

Sacha said: “The Maes Y Bryn Olympics were every bit as exciting as the Paris games.

“The people we supported got inspired after tuning into the sporting action on TV and wanted a piece of the action.

“We set up our games in the communal areas so anybody who wanted to participate could get involved, and it was a great success.”

As well as competing in the games, the people supported at Maes Y Bryn also did an Olympic torch procession.

Tom and Demi did a lap of the service before handing the torch to Julia and Kat, bringing a flavour of the French games to Wales.

Sacha added: “The brilliant thing about the Olympics is that it brings people together – and that’s what happened here too.

“Many of the people we support love sport, and Adam recently got to go to the velodrome to meet some of the Welsh National Cyclists.

“It was awesome for him to tune in and see the cycling events at the games, and he also enjoyed what we had on offer.

“For Demi, the arts and crafts part of this was her favourite, and Tom told his support workers that the Olympics day was ‘lovely and fun’, and that ‘winning was like how it is on TV’.

“We are so proud of everyone for getting stuck in, and they are all winners in our eyes.”
