Ricky Climbs Snowdon In Diabetes Charity Challenge

Novice climber Ricky Freeman has conquered his fears and scaled the top of Mount Snowdon to raise money for charity.

Ricky was inspired to take on the challenge due to his experiences with his dad, who lives with Type 1 diabetes.

His goal was to raise money for Diabetes UK and help fund vital research into the chronic condition.

After completing the climb in just two hours and 50 minutes, Ricky has raised over £200.

Ricky said: “When I got three-quarters of the way up Mount Snowdown, I was utterly exhausted, and I wanted to give up.

“But the thought of my dad and raising money to help fight diabetes gave me the extra push I needed.

“Dad thought it was great that I was taking on such a big challenge in his honour, and I’ve been blown away by the support I’ve had from work.”

Emerald Care Administrator Ricky, who is based in Barnsley, was delighted when Swanton bosses donated £120 to his Go Fund Me page.

His colleagues have rallied around to cheer Ricky on for the Mount Snowdon hike.

Ricky added: “My colleagues are like a big family, and the support has been phenomenal.

“Dad suffered from a hyperglycaemic coma just two weeks ago, which was a horrible scare for us.

“He’s doing well now, but anybody who lives with diabetes or has a loved one who does knows what a strain it can put on people.

“I’m glad I’ve been able to do something proactive to help the fight against diabetes.”
