KB, who is supported by Swanton Community Services Surrey, recently enjoyed a fantastic creative experience after attending a Sip & Paint session in Oxford Circus. The event took place at The Iron Duke, where KB joined a small group of participants for an evening of painting, socialising and trying something new.
This wasn’t just any evening out — it was something KB had been looking forward to for quite some time.
Team Leader Cindy Agyemang, who supported KB on the day, shared how much anticipation there had been in the lead-up to the trip.
“KB had been talking about doing a Sip & Paint session for a while. When we found one in London, she was so excited — especially as it had been years since she’d last visited. She counted down the days and couldn’t wait to get there.”
The opportunity to combine a return visit to London with an activity she loves made the experience even more meaningful.
The theme for the evening was “Winter in the Alps” — a scene that immediately captured KB’s imagination. Art has always been important to her, and she takes real pride in expressing herself through drawing and painting.
Cindy described how immersed KB became in the session:
“She was completely focused and so calm. You could see how much she was enjoying the process — mixing colours, building the scene and really taking her time with it.”
The guided format of the class helped KB feel confident, and she welcomed gentle encouragement to trust her own creativity rather than compare herself to others.
“She didn’t rush,” Cindy added. “She wanted to get it just right, and it was lovely to see her confidence grow as the painting came together.”
As well as embracing the creative side of the evening, KB also enjoyed chatting with other participants, making the most of the relaxed and social atmosphere.

The session took place in a cosy upstairs room at the venue, creating a calm and informal setting where everyone could enjoy a drink while painting. KB quickly settled into the space and clearly felt comfortable.
She was especially proud of her finished artwork and was keen for photos to be taken so she could remember the experience.
“She kept asking to see the photos of her painting,” Cindy shared. “She was so proud of what she’d created — and rightly so.”
At the end of the evening, KB summed up the experience perfectly. “I don’t want to leave!”
It was clear just how much she had enjoyed the session, and she has already said she would love to do something similar again.
Experiences like this play an important role in supporting confidence, wellbeing and independence. Taking part in creative, community-based activities helps KB to:
Cindy reflected on the wider impact of the trip: “Opportunities like this are so important. They’re not just about the activity itself — they’re about confidence, independence and doing something that genuinely makes someone happy. KB absolutely shone throughout the evening.”
The trip to London showcased KB’s creativity, enthusiasm and willingness to try something new — and it was a wonderful reminder of the difference meaningful community experiences can make.
A huge well done to KB for embracing the opportunity and making the most of such a positive and memorable day.
