Swanton skydivers Izaac and Emily raise £1,400 for African Orphanage Project

Adrenalin junkie Emily and Support Worker Izaac Adams jumped for hope this Spring by skydiving to raise critical funds for vulnerable children in Africa.

The skydive was part of a long-term fundraising drive coordinated by Charlotte Oakley, Allocations and Support Worker at Swanton SCS Norwich.

Charlotte has been raising money for the Paradise Community Centre, an orphanage for vulnerable children in the Kibera Slum of Nairobi, the largest slum in Africa.

When Charlotte told Emily, who is supported at SCS Norwich, she jumped at the chance to get involved.

Charlotte said: “Emily heard us talking about the skydive idea and raising money for Paradise Community Centre and wanted to get involved immediately.

“She’s quite an adrenalin junkie and often goes to theme parks to go on the most hair-raising rides.

“But neither she nor Izaac had done a skydive before, and they were amazing and helped us raise an incredible £1,400 for the charity.”

Fundraisers hope to fund the building of a new orphanage for the vulnerable children in Nairobi and relocate them to Mombasa.

This is the fourth time Charlotte and her fundraisers have been able to send them a sizeable cheque, and the money will be used to build a wall to secure their site in Mombasa.

Emily and Izaac did their skydive at Beccles Airfield, where SCS Norwich staff and people supported at the service cheered them on.

Charlotte added: “I can’t believe how chilled out Emily was about doing the skydive, but it didn’t seem to faze her at all.

“Everyone on our fundraising team is so proud of her and Izaac and want to thank them for helping make a difference to the children of Paradise Community Centre.”
