This year’s holiday season kicked off in spectacular style for Tayte as he enjoyed his first trip away in almost a decade.
Tayte hasn’t been on holiday since he moved into Graig Llwyd in 2017, and Service Manager Laura Priest was keen to find out if it was possible.
So after a chat with Tayte’s mum, the plan was set in motion to find the perfect venue so Tayte could achieve this fantastic goal.
Laura said: “We wanted to make sure we found a place for Tayte to stay that wasn’t far from us in case he didn’t settle.
‘Luckily, his mum used to be a trustee Thrive, who support people with learning disabilities, and knew they had a rental holiday apartment in the Gower.
“It was perfect for Tayte, so we got it booked and then arranged for two of his favourite people, Support Workers Emmanuel and Susan, to go with him.”
The holiday kicked off on Monday as the travellers arrived at the Gower near Swansea.
During the fun-packed week, Tayte got to do some of his favourite things – sightseeing, walking on the beach and going to the zoo.
Laura said: “Tayte had an amazing time and settled in straight away!
“He loves to be out and about, so all the sightseeing and activities were fabulous for him.
“Better still, we now know that he is comfortable with staying somewhere else overnight, so we can look at locations further afield for his next holiday.”
After such a successful trip, Laura says that the whole team are delighted for Tayte.
Laura added: “It means the world to all of us to see the people we support achieve goals like Tayte has with his holiday.
“The support staff have worked so hard to facilitate this and Tayte did so well to adapt and make the week really special.
“We are excited to see where his travels might take him next!”
