Every year, the team buys each other gifts for Christmas, but they wanted to do something different this festive season and give to others. After seeing a plea for food bank donations online, the team decided food bank support would be the perfect way to use the Secret Santa money to make a difference. Swanton Care promised to match their donations, and a grand total of £330 was collected for a food bank shopping spree.
According to Service Manager Michelle Williams, when volunteer Mel Morgans from the Gwaun-Care-Gurwen Food Bank came to collect the items, she was bowled over. Michelle said:
“It was a heart-warming moment when the team told me they planned to make a difference with their Secret Santa money. They are a great bunch of devoted carers, so it didn’t surprise me that they’d be thinking of others. Our pro shoppers Delyth and Fiona did a supermarket run and stocked up, and Mel from Gwaun-Care-Gurwen was thrilled when she arrived to pick it up.”
Many of the staff live close to the food bank, and it meant a lot to them to provide and essentials for struggling people in the area. The shop included food, personal care items, toiletries, and some extra special Christmas goodies.
“Mel was over the moon and said the Glangarnant collection was terrific. It meant a lot to us to know we would be making a difference in people’s lives. What makes me most proud is that it showed how thoughtful and considerate the people who work at Glangarnant are. At a time when it’s traditional to spoil yourself, they just wanted to give back to their community by providing food bank support.”
