There was no way that rain would stop play for Sampson Park this spring as the team did their second annual Walk For Autism.
After smashing the challenge last year, the people supported at the Swanton service were determined to make 2024 a success, too.
Scheme Manager Annabelle Turner and her colleagues Pin, Toni, Sasha, Helen and Evelyn also committed to each walking 10,000 steps a day.
They supported Shannon, Heather, Jordan and Megan as they endeavoured to raise money and awareness for people on the autism spectrum.
Annabelle said: “Everybody at Sampson Park got so much out of doing Walk For Autism last year, and so it was great to do it again for 2024.
“Sadly, the weather hasn’t been as kind to us as it was in 2023, but we kept going regardless!
“Each day, we’ve done everything we can to get to 10,000 steps – even if it involves getting dizzy doing laps of the car park and front room.
“It boosted morale and brought us all together in a fantastic way.”
During the challenge – which ran from March 26th to April 2nd – some of the people supported managed to go over and above the target.
Annabelle added: “Shannon walked to Ironbridge over the bank holiday weekend and clocked up 13,000 steps in one day instead of getting a taxi.
“We were so proud of her for working so hard and the other people we support for doing all they could to get their steps up.
“Between us, we managed to walk 100,000 steps over the week, so Team Sampson Park did Walk For Autism proud.
“The best thing was that it was often the people we support who were reminding us to get moving and ‘step up’, and we’re thrilled with the result.”
