A fantastic team of nine support workers from Swanton Community Services Barnsley came together to take on this year’s Race for Life — a 5K mud-filled challenge in support of Cancer Research UK.
Each person had a personal reason for joining the race. From honouring family members and close friends who’ve been lost to cancer, to celebrating those who have bravely fought and survived — including one incredible person we support — the event carried real meaning for everyone involved.
The team — Sarah, Erica, Lesley, Rhea, Darren, Kelsie, Ceri, Luke and Kirsty — showed brilliant teamwork and determination on the day, and together raised a fantastic £1,205 for life-saving research. Their efforts were boosted by donations from friends, families, colleagues and the wider Swanton community, with Swanton proud to make a contribution to the fundraiser and cheer the team on every step of the way..

Registered Manager Darren, who also took part, said: “I’m so proud of the whole team. Their passion, positivity and teamwork were incredible — and all for a cause that means so much to all of us. What a fantastic day!”
A special thank-you goes to Jemma and Alan, two of the people we support, who came along to cheer the team on and share in the celebration.
The day was filled with energy, encouragement, and plenty of muddy moments — a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved in supporting such an important cause.
The Race for Life is a chance to come together, raise awareness, and support those affected by cancer — and the SCS Barnsley team did just that, with heart and determination every step of the way. We’re proud of our colleagues for taking part and making a real difference.
Well done to everyone involved!
