The magic of Diwali came to Tynedale this November as the people supported there enjoyed a special celebration.
Support Worker Monisha Rijhwani offered to do a special activity on the day of the Hindu festival of light.
The people supported at Tynedale came together to hear about why Hindus celebrate Diwali, how they celebrate, and the traditional clothes worn as part of the festivities.
Better yet, Monisha’s mother, Mrs Rijhwani, kindly provided a delicious spread of Indian food for everyone to enjoy.
Deputy Manager Paula Smith said it was a wonderful experience for everyone.
Paula said: “It was so interesting to learn about Diwali and to have such a lovely day of celebrating together.
“We decorated Tynedale with lots of colourful props and played traditional music all day.
“Monisha showed us some dance moves which everyone tried, and we feasted on Mrs Rijhwani’s incredible food.
“Diwali is such a special time, and it was very moving to hear from Monisha about why her family and friends love it so much.”
The festival of light marks the beginning of the New Year for Hindus and was celebrated on 12th November 2023.
