The people we support, alongside landlords, team members, and managers, came together for a recent Tenants Meeting in Swanton Community Services Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin — a relaxed and inclusive space where everyone could share their thoughts, ask questions, and feel heard. These regular meetings give tenants the chance to influence decisions, raise ideas, and help shape the support and housing services that matter most to them.

During the meeting, housing representatives introduced their roles and explained how they support tenants with everything from maintenance issues to tenancy queries and routine housing checks. A range of thoughtful and practical points were raised by tenants, and agreements were reached in regard to several maintenance-related requests. These included a follow-up visit to explore potential soundproofing solutions, a review of tree maintenance based on health and safety needs, and a request to lower a fire door release button for better accessibility.
As part of preparations for the bi-annual People We Support Forum, tenants worked together to suggest the types of questions they would like included in support worker interviews. These thoughtful and personal suggestions — like “Are you kind?” and “Would you support me in the community?” — reflect the importance of building trusting, respectful relationships with support staff who truly understand their needs and interests.

Vicky Harper from Inclusion reflected on the meeting: “I really liked how the tenants all came together, and they were excited to see each other from other schemes. The inclusion of the tenants in you putting together your survey, promoting their input by encouraging them to write the questions they wanted to be asked, was lovely. I would imagine this made them feel front and centre. It was just a lovely, uplifting atmosphere that I enjoyed very much. I hope we will be invited again! And they all enjoyed the breakfast you kindly provided for them all.”
The group also chatted about the upcoming Stakeholder and Tenant Satisfaction Surveys. Easy Read guidance was shared so everyone felt clear and confident about getting involved.
A big thank you to all the tenants who took part so enthusiastically, and to the staff and partners who supported the day. These meetings are a great reminder of how important it is to listen, include everyone, and take action — they really do make a difference.
